The purpose of the club is to promote friendship among women of Rice University and to welcome newcomers
The Club welcomes as members women faculty, staff, active or retired, as well as female spouses, partners or family members of faculty and staff, active or retired. Female postdoctoral students, female spouses, partners or family members of postdoctoral students are also welcomed.
The Rice Women’s club seeks people from Rice and the greater-Houston community to offer lectures to the group following the club’s business meetings. Those lectures cover a variety of topics and interests and are open to the Rice community. Sometimes on-campus visits or excursions to interesting destinations are organized by club leadership. Carpools are available always. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month of the academic year (September to April) at the Rice University Faculty Club at Cohen House on the Rice University campus.
The meetings and lectures at Cohen House (or elsewhere on-campus) are followed by lunch at the Faculty Club. Tables are reserved for those that wish to stay. For members of the Rice community that attend the meetings and are not members of the Faculty Club, and stay for lunch, payment arrangements can be made via check or cash.
The first meeting of the year is traditionally held at the President’s House, and the last meeting of the year is traditionally an afternoon tea social.
